Michael Gordon Giles Campbell (1065-1156) was the fifth Sovereign Prince of reign of Clan Campbell of Abercraiggie. He acceded to the throne in 1105, on the retirement of his father, Prince Stuart VII.
Early Life[edit]
Michael was the oldest son of Stuart; his younger brother, James, was one of his most trusted advisors throughout both of their lives.
Michael attended Darrowleith Preparatory School, and graduated from Saints College at the Royal University of Caledon in 1085. Commissioned as a reserve officer, he served the usual term in the military as an officer in the General Command Staff before joining his father's staff in 1088.
He married Roslyn MacGarrigle (107th Dutchess of Lairdharrow) in 1098. Roslyn, a junior member of the Physics faculty of the Royal University's Armstrong Center, and the Crown Prince met while sailing on Stirling's Opal Lagoon in 1095. They had three children - Annette, Sheila, and Stuart, the future Stuart VIII.
Pre-Accession[edit]
On his father's staff, he worked his way up through the Regent's office, becoming a foreign policy advisor specializing in Imperial activities - a job that involved many trips to the Imperium. There, Michael was alarmed by the speed of the Imperium's decay.
Accession[edit]
Stuart VII stepped down due to health reasons in 1105; Michael was next in line to the throne. He was crowned on 339-1105.
