Kiriani

The trade language spoken by the majority of Hamaran.

Kiriani originated on Tethys (Dagudashaag 1114), and a more formalised version is still used by the Hamaran Priest caste in their ceremonies. Kirihamaraä, a precursor to Kiriani, was commonly used on Tethys. Since most Hamaran moved to other worlds, less formal dialects of Kiriani became their common commercial language.

Most Hamaran speak Kiriani, though one of the requirements for entry into the Hachar Gyasö (Government) or working at a starport is a fluency in Galanglic and Galaach.

Sounds

Kiriani is formed deep within the throat and secondary stomach, and expelled as the Hamaran breathes out. This means that Hamaran are able to speak continuously even while eating or drinking. It also allows Hamaran musicians to play a wind instrument and sing an accompaniment at the same time. Although Humans and other sophont alien races can learn the language, most Hamaran find that their pronunciation is usually extremely squeaky and punctuated in all the wrong places, making it difficult to understand.
