Imperial Judge
Those Nobles who are charged with upholding Imperial Law.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
An Imperial Judge is appointed to an Imperial Court. The Imperium maintains three court systems[1]: -
The Judge will be appointed to a specific court in a specific Subsector by the subsector's Duke.
Judges are always Nobles[2], but not always peers. Judges need not be trained in law, they may retain a court legate to advise them in facts of law for a particular case.
The Imperial High Court (within the Imperial Criminal Courts system) has only one judge and that is the Emperor.
Note that there is no Imperial Court of Appeal so the Judges have a great responsibility. Judges are not above Imperial Law but have great power and are thus tempted to great corruption. To ensure such abuses don't go unchecked, the Ministry of Justice maintains a series of Agents who investigate possible problems and allow the Imperium to hold Judges to account.
