Grand Dominion of Dwennakon
A polity found in the RimReach Sector.
Description[edit]
The Grand Dominion is the most powerful nation in RimReach.
Status and ranking[edit]
Goals[edit]
- Maintaining and expanding upon Dominion supremacy over the sector.
- Facilitating the growth of trade and prosperity throughout its holdings.
- The destruction of any opponents to the Dominion and its mission.
- Providing a safe life for citizens of the Dominion.
Culture and Society[edit]
Technology and Trade[edit]
The Dominion has a maximum Tech Level of 15, though only one world, Hegemonia, has this high a level of technology. TL-11 to TL-13 is the standard for developed worlds throughout the Dominion, with more barbaric worlds having mid to low-tech industries.
History and background[edit]
The Dominion first began in the year 170, when the various belts of the Hegemonia system united. By this time the belts were only TL-10, and only had Jump-1 at their disposal. They expanded along the Dwennakon Main until they came in contact with another star empire, the Isrokian Ascendancy. The Isrokians were TL-15 by this time, while the Dominion was only TL-10. However, the Isrokians had not fought a war in millenia, and had almost no standing navy. The Dominion was battle-hardened, and was prepared to fight the long fight if necessary. The Dominion by now consisted of a dozen colony worlds, against the Ascendancy's tens of industrialised, high tech planets. The Dominion launched a punitive attack against the Ascendancy, capturing several worlds and stealing their technologies. In 203, the first war came to an end, with the Ascendancy taken by surprise and defeated. The Ascendancy was wary now, and prepared a fleet. But the warlike Dominion was ready too, and now with technologies on par with the Ascendancy, through their capture of several Ascendancy warships and cities. And in 227, they clashed once more. The Ascendancy had no mercy, committing several (by Human standards) war crimes, but to them it was simply a part of the conflict. This inspired deep hate for the Ascendancy in the Dominion and its worlds, and the war changed from a simple struggle for dominance to the utter destruction of one side or another. Fuelled by rage, the Dominion fleets ravaged the Ascendancy, and executed one of the most vicious genocides ever seen in Charted Space over the course of several brutal conflicts. By the end of the fourth war (351), the Ascendancy was defeated, and the home-capital of Isrok was ruined from orbit, along with countless other worlds in RimReach Sector. Its surface is charred and cratered from the pounding it took. The Ascendancy survived, barely, in the Isrokian Remnant, a small interstellar state that is a mere shadow of what it once was.
Politics and diplomacy:1105[edit]
The Dominion is unfriendly, if not outright hostile, towards most other states in the Rim Reach.
- Stardust Alliance
- The Alliance was initially formed with the aim of defending its member worlds from the grasping arms of the Dominion, and as such distrust is common between these two empires, although some limited trade takes place. This trade is, ironically, largely controlled by the Dominion.
- Omeer Sun Combine
- The Combine and the Dominion are mostly neutral in each others' relations, as little contact or trade takes place over the sea of uninhabited or ruined worlds between them.
- Riftling Federation
- The Dominion is unconcerned with the barbarians from across the Asterian Abyss.
- Republic of Bujal
- The Dominion is unfriendly to the Republic, and is actively seeking to conquer or collapse it. The alliance between the Hyolian Empire and the Republic is going to make them difficult to take, however.
- Hyolian Empire
- The Dominion is seeking to drive a rift between the Empire and its close ally, the Republic of Bujal.
- Firebreak Protectorate
- The Protectorate is a subject nation of the Dominion, and was formed to defend the Coreward portions of the sector from the growing influence of the Valkyrie, a parasitic race known to be present on several worlds in Desolation and Wilted Rose subsectors.
- Isrokian Remnant
- This forgotten ruin of a nation is largely ignored by the Dominion, as it poses no potential threat to Dominion superiority in the sector.
- Visionaries of Istar
- This small interstellar power is mostly treated simply as another cluster of barbarian planets, and most Dominion citizens simply do not know it exists.
