Glimmerdrift Trade Consortium
The Glimmerdrift Trade Consortium, also known as the Glimmerdrift Spread, was a small pocket empire in the coreward region of Glimmerdrift Reaches Sector.
Description / Specifications[edit]
An alliance based upon trade and industry, the Consortium supported a range of agendas among its members. While internal politics could be rather vigorous, the Consortium wasn't expansionistic. Its economic influence was felt across the sector, and it could bring considerable power to bear if it chose, but for the most part the worlds of the Consortium -- and the Consortium itself -- were content to mind their own affairs. Occasionally a new world petitioned to join; most such requests were politely turned down.
The Consortium was dominated by the high-tech economy of Fal.
Economic[edit]
The Glint was the standard currency of the GTC.
Consortium affairs were normally in a state of "chaotic stability"; changes were minor and gradual despite furious politicking by various factions. Outsiders found this situation rather exhausting to enter into, which effectively kept foreign firms out of Consortium-influenced markets. This was probably not a coincidence.
History & Background / Dossier[edit]
The Glimmerdrift Trade Consortium existed from 810 as a political entity. It was a loose trade alliance between 14 systems.
Border arrangements existed with neighboring powers, but only as negotiated by individual member worlds. There were few formal arrangements and treaties concerning the Consortium as a whole -- it preferred to make peace through manifest benefits to both parties rather than the formal wording of a treaty.
During the Tri-Empire War, the Consortium combined with the remnants of the Federate Republic to form the Glimmerdrift Federation.
