Geonee/secret

The Geonee homeworld is also home to a large population of Chirpers.

The Geonee males, as part of their marriage rituals, is required to attract and keep a Chirper, called a selweeda (cerosee in GURPS Traveller: Interstellar Wars) or matchmaker. For the normally reclusive, and psionically invisible, chirpers this can be a daunting task. Usually this is performed by offering food and shelter in potential chirper habitats.

Once the Geonee male has gained the trust of the Chirper sufficiently to allow the Chirper to show itself not only to the male, but his brothers and other male relatives, is the Geonee allowed to marry. The marriage lasts only as long as the Chirper remains with the male Geonee.

It is unknown where this marriage custom derived, and it is little discussed with outsiders.
