The star Alhena (also variously known as Gamma Geminorum and Almeisan) is a binary star system whose primary star is a blue-white subgiant of spectral classification A1.5 which has evolved off the main sequence as its core hydrogen has become exhausted.

The Alhena star system is a binary system with an orbital period of 12.6 years.

  • The orbit of the B-component about Alhena A has a high eccentricity of e=0.89.

The Alhena star system lies approximately 33.5pc from Terra, and is located in a Rimward/Rimspinward direction from Terra at bearing 196.8o Galactic Longitude and +04.5o North Galactic Latitude.
