Description / Specifications[edit]
The Tracked Excavator is a construction vehicle designed for commercial organisations.
Hull / Suspension[edit]
A generally box-shaped hull constructed from steel.
- Length: 3.3m, Width: 2.8m, Height: 3.0m.
- Overall Volume: approximately 27.8m³ (2.1 dTons).
Boom and Bucket (stowed)[edit]
A hydraulically operated arm directly mounted on the front of the body of the vehicle and ending in a large hardened steel excavation bucket. When the vehicle is being transported the boom is "furled" and the bucket is held against the tracks.
- Length: 3.2m, Width: 1.8m, Height: 2.9m.
- Overall Volume: approximately 16.7m³ (1.3 dTons).
Combined Specifications[edit]
- Overall Volume: approximately 44.5m³ (3.3 dTons).
- Weight: 21,500 kg.
The overall volume measures the vehicles dimensions, less those of the boom / bucket, but including ground clearance. The enclosed volume of the contoured hull is lower.
The vehicle is fitted with a tracked suspension system.
- The vehicle has a mediocre performance on metalled surfaces and has adequate off-road capability.
Power / Transmission[edit]
A medium internal combustion power plant using hydrocarbon fuel. The fuel is contained within a small protected tank.
Performance[edit]
- Cruise Speed: 10 kph, Top Speed: 15 kph. Off-road Speed: less than 15 kph.
- Range: 200 km at Cruise Speed, 150 km at Top Speed.
Crew[edit]
The body of the Excavator is mounted on top of the tracked suspension and encloses the machinery: it is able to rotate through 360 degrees. The crew cabin, located towards the front of the vehicle, is fitted with clear windows and contains one seat. The vehicle has basic environmental protection (the hull is weatherproof but is not sealed) and is fitted with interior lights. The driver's position is fitted with basic mechanical controls. A console provides data such as engine temperature and hydraulic status.
There is no dedicated cargo storage, though there is adequate space within the cabin for small personal items.
- Cargo Storage: 1m³ (0.1 dTons).
- Maximum Load: limited only by storage space.
Equipment / Operations[edit]
Headlights and running lights. A spotlight is fitted to the exterior of the cabin roof.
Excavator Arm[edit]
A long hydraulically operated boom mounted on the front of the vehicle body, used to excavate and move materials. It can also be used to push and pull.
- Bucket: a large scoop constructed from hardened steel with typical dimensions of 1.8m x 0.7m x 0.7m – the bucket is dismountable, allowing other sizes of bucket (or other tools, such as claws) to be attached. It connects to the boom by means of hydraulics that allow it to be raised, lowered and angled.
- Maximum Reach: 5.2m.
- Bucket Capacity: approximately 0.9m³.
- Maximum Load: 1,800 kg.
History / Background[edit]
A large, powerful construction vehicle also regularly seen in industrial, commercial and agricultural roles.
