Organisation of History category and sub-categories[edit]
We need to come up with some more sub-categories for this page e.g. Emperors and States. --RASN Lt. Cmdr. Reijerink 11:05, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
It seems we have some suitable pages to serve as sub-categories, there is Emperors of the third Imperium, I can't perform the edit yet. --RASN Lt. Cmdr. Reijerink 23:02, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Ok it seems that I was able to perform the edits, I just didn't recognise what a category page looks like under edit. Doh. I have the intention of editing all the pages that appear in major categories with links to their sub-category pages and rationalise a lot of the links for the History category. The end product would seem to be a lot of links to the History page, e.g. many "person" category entries are not yet listed as History entries. IS this the right direction to be heading in? --RASN Lt. Cmdr. Reijerink 05:29, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
We need a standard to determine if an entry goes in the History category and/or a sub category. this category. If an entry goes in a sub-category, should it be listed by default in the main category? Doing this with the History category may soon make the category itself meaningless as almost every article is history related. Any thoughts? --RASN Lt. Cmdr. Reijerink 22:39, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
- The usual standard is to put the page into the most appropriate category. If it works best in the sub-category (e.g. people) put it there only. If the article really doesn't belong in the one of the (currently defined) sub-categories, put it in the top level one (e.g. History). This follows the Wikipedia standards for organization.
- Also, keep in mind that the {{LE}} template can only take 7 parameters (i.e. categories). and that some of the templates either do or can add categories to a page. For example, the emperors' pages all have the {{ThirdImperiumEmperors}} template included, so by adding the Category: Emperors of the Third Imperium to the template, you can add the category to all the pages faster and easier than editing 43+ pages.
