Catalan (language)
Catalan is a principally Iberian Dialect with Francophone elements that the Terrans spread to the stars during the Terran Confederation and Rule of Man.
Description[edit]
The Catalan language dialect arose in the Western Eurasian Continent of Old Terra on the Iberian Peninsula at the confluence of two subfamilies of the Latin family of languages, in a region that historically became known as Catalonia or Cataluña after the Catalan people who lived in the region. These people had historically descended from the Goths and Alans who had overrun and settled amongst the earlier Iberian peoples, and the "Goths and Alans Land" later was Latinized and worn down into the form Catalonia.
Catalan is normally considered to be a Spanish dialect, but is significantly divergent, having significant Southern Francophone elements absorbed from Occitan and Gallo-Roman sources.
