Starport

Trident has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is fuel for spaceships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. There is only a downport. If lighterage is required, services can be arranged with providers on neighbouring Poseidon.

Size

Trident is a Small World of 1900km in diameter. The world has very low gravity of 0.05G. The horizon appears about 2km away.

Local Time

The local time is Fleet Time as the light-dark cycle is tied to the orbital period of the moon.

Atmosphere

Trident has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

At the last census, the colony had a population of 3422 (1812 Male, 1610 Female) in 68 habitation modules.

Government

Law

Trident has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

Technology

Trident imports all its equipment and most of that is imported second-hand. As a consequence it is unusual for anything to be up-to-date. The most notable exception to this is the life-support systems on which the colony spends much of its annual tax income.

Biology and Ecology

Trident is a station on a vacuum world. There is no native biosphere and the stations gardens are entirely imported from off-world.

Military

Trident doesn't have a standing army; but the citizenry has almost no limitation on personal armament and has, historically, been forced to fight off pirates.

Economy

Trident's economy is based on mineral extraction (especially He₃), research spaces and solar energy farms. It makes use of a lot of equipment re-purposed from other worlds and a large part of the effort of the colony is keeping such equipment running.

Historically, Trident operated as a staging post for traffic to Poseidon, but much of this role is now undertaken by modern orbitals in low orbits about that planet. As a consequence, the moon has a far larger warehousing capacity than is currently required. It used to have a repair and servicing function, but this closed in 297.
