Native to New Earth, Floss is the generic term for the land-based plants that had occupied the surface of the planet since time immemorial. In many places, the lineages are starting to be pushed into niche habitats by the Earth imports.

Description

Floss is the New Earth equivalent of Moss, and is the height of native, land based flora. The height in question being very short - usually under 30mm. Floss (in its many forms) had, prior to the arrival of The Fleet, blanketed much of the continents and islands unless too dry or too extreme in some other way.

Since the arrival of Earth imports, the flora has been crowded out in many places because it cannot compete with the taller invaders. Grass is especially disastrous. However, note everything is a catastrophe for the native forms. Some now inhabit the branches of trees, or walls and other niches created by man. It can survive more intense sunlight than the invading species and clings on where any self-respecting grass would blow way.
