Cats were one of the first creatures unthawed when The Fleet began settlement, not for their ecological position, but for the fact that the Captain of the Hope was somewhat depressed and missing his pets. As a consequence, the tailless breed formerly known as Manx is, in the New Earth System known as Hopes Cats. The first cats introduced for ecological purposes were not released until the Year 75.
