Description (Specifications)[edit]
70 Ophiuchi A and B orbit each other in a highly elliptical orbit (e=0.499) at an average distance of 23.2AU, the separation varying between 11.4AU at periastron to 34.8AU at apastron, with an orbital period of 88.3 years.
- The inner edge of 70 Ophiuchi A's habitable zone is located around 0.56AU from the star, while the outer edge lies around 1.10AU. The distance from 70 Ophiuchi A where a Terra-normal world would be located is centered at about ~0.830AU, where a planet's period would be ~230 days.
- The inner edge of 70 Ophiuchi B's habitable zone is located at around 0.315AU from the star, while the outer edge lies farther out at ~0.617AU. The distance from 70 Ophiuchi B where a Terra-normal world would be located is centered at about ~0.466AU; such a planet would have an orbital period of about 146 days.
The 70 Ophiuchi star system lies approximately 5.1pc from Terra, and is located in a Coreward/Corespinward direction from Terra at bearing 029.9o Galactic Longitude and +11.4o North Galactic Latitude.
