Kaatha is an icy, low-population vacuum world, with a population less than 10,000 sophonts in population size, warranting hazardous environment precautions.
- Its surface is ice-capped with little or no atmosphere and nearly all of its water frozen.
- It is a member of the Sath Alliance in the Sarudis Subsector of Far Home Sector.
- Warning: humans are not welcome within the Sath Alliance. Those few humans that venture into its territory are generally met with a hostile reception and are closely monitored at all times.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- It is part of the Sha'a Cluster.

System Data
Sii'akh-Kaatha System
The primary is Sii'akh, a dim red dwarf star. It has a luminosity of 0.273 Sols, a mass of 0.081 Sols and a diameter of 109,000 km. (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (III) a ringed large gas giant, (IV) Aka'thah, a small gas giant: (IVa) Kaatha is its second moon and is designated the mainworld, (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (VI) a small ice giant, and (VII) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Hiisih Subsystem
The companion is Hiisih, an L-type Brown Dwarf that lies approximately 1300 AU from Sii'akh. It is not luminous, it has a mass of 0.067 Sols and a diameter of 60,000 km. (I) a trace atmosphere worldlet and (II) a vacuum worldlet form its outer zone. Neither world retains satellites.
(IV) Aka'thah
(IV) Aka'thah is a small gas giant that orbits Sii'akh at a mean distance of 0.94 AU (141 million km), within the outer system, and has an orbital period of 3 years 74 days. It has a diameter of 38,000km and an atmosphere consisting of 90% hydrogen (H2), 10% helium (He), and less than 1% methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH3), water vapor (H2O) and other trace gases. It is a deep blue color with narrow bands of white high altitude clouds. Enormous storms, sometimes covering as much as a quarter of the surface periodically rise from deep within the interior. It retains a family of three major satellites.
Satellites
Aka'thah retains three major satellites:
- (IVa) Kiishk (UWP Y101000-0, orbiting at 7 Diameters/265,000 km)
- (IVb) Kaatha (designated the mainworld, orbiting at 12 Diameters/455,000 km)
- (IVc) Skaah (UWP H4A0000-0, orbiting at 15 Diameters/570,000 km)
Mainworld Data
(IVb) Kaatha
(IVb) Kaatha is the second of the three major moons of (IV) Aka'thah and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 12 diameters (455,000 km), with an orbital period of 167 days 23 hours: it is tidally locked to Aka'thah. The axial tilt is 3 degrees relative to Aka'thah. Kaatha has a diameter of 2,917 km, a density of 5.53 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.23 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Aka'thah cause occasional geological activity. The atmosphere is rated as Vacuum. Around 13% of the surface is covered in sheets of crystalline water-ice. Mean surface temperature: -135°C.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 26.7 million km², Land surface area: 23.2 million km², Ice surface area: 3.5 million km².
Native Lifeforms
Sii'akh-Kaatha System
No world in the system is known to have native life.
Hiisih Subsystem
No native life is known to exist within the subsystem.
History & Background (Dossier)
This system is controlled by the Ka'sa Faction of the Sath Alliance.
World starport
Kaatha has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Kaatha possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World government
Kaatha is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
