William Gordon MacArthur, second son of Morris and Alison Macarthur
Compared to his elder brother John VI, aka "John the Stupid, William was a capable enough administrator and diligent enough man.
However, he was blinded by family loyalty - so when the feud instigated by his brother against Clan Fitzwilliam boiled over into the First Civil War, and his first effort at diplomacy was rebuffed, he plunged into the squabble with aplomb.
The war - which, blessedly for the Principality, had more in common with a gangland feud than an actual shooting civil war - lasted the entire 19 years of William's reign.
William died of natural causes two years after leaving the throne, leaving no heirs.
