Order of the Tower and Sword

The Order of the Tower and Sword is an Order of Knighthood awarded to individuals responsible for either capturing military strongholds or defending positions, whether they be physical positions or ideals and beliefs.

Description (Specifications)

The current order has three variants, two of which are military in nature (both signified by the postnominals "KTS"), and one of which is a civilian division:

1. Knight Victor (K.T.S. / D.T.S.) - MILITARY BRANCH: For military personnel responsible for capturing fortified positions.
2. Knight Guardian (K.T.S. / D.T.S.) - MILITARY BRANCH: For military personnel responsible for defending fortified positions.
3. Knight Bachelor (C.T.S.) - CIVILIAN BRANCH: For civilians to reward those who have defended ideals and beliefs with perseverance.

» The separate branches of the Order are headed by the following Grand Officers:

• The Vicar General (VTS) heads the Civilian Order of the Knights Bachelor.
• The Master General (MTS) heads the Military Orders of the Knights Guardian and Knights Victor.

The insignia of the variants of the order are as follows:

• The Badge of the Knights Victor (the original award) is "two gold swords crossed behind a ruined tower enameled in black".
• The Badge of the Knights Guardian are as above, but have the tower in gold with the black swords crossing in front.

» The awards are dependent from a ribbon of the Order, which is black with a series of gold bends.

• The Badge of the Knights Bachelor, the civilian degree, wear their badges on a ribbon of black, with silver bends.

The Headquarters of the Order is on Capital, near the primary starport. The complex houses a museum, a library, and a wide variety of training rooms. While no facilities are provided for visiting members to stay, there are several lodging houses that border on the parade grounds.

History & Background (Dossier)

The Order of the Tower and Sword was originally created by Empress Marava to reward commanders of the assault on the Grand Palace of Martin II, in 620. The Empress Arbellatra subsequently expanded the Order to include military personnel responsible for either capturing or defending fortified positions. In 790, Empress Paula II created a civilian degree in order to reward those who have defended ideals and ephemeral beliefs.
