An alternative suggestion for noting Hull Codes larger than ACS.

Unofficial/ALT

Various unofficial methods may be used for representing ship designs compactly. Extensions depend entirely on the needs of the application.

Larger Ships

For ships larger than ACS (2400 tons) - Alternative method.

Define ranges by order of magnitude:

1. ACS Range: 100 - 2,400 tons - ("Adventure Class")
2. BCS Range: 1,000 - 24,000 tons - ("Battle Class")
3. CCS Range: 10,000 - 240,000 tons - ("Capital Class")
4. FCS Range: 100,000 - 2,400,000 tons - ("Fleet Class")

In each range, use the same alphabetical progression for Hull-size codes, but append "A", "B", "C", or "F" to the Hull-code Letter when needed for range-specificity.

  EF-BEU/66.     5,000 ton Fast Escort.
  GR-BBS/60.    20,000 ton "Battle" Rider.
  CB-BDU/73.    40,000 ton Battlecruiser.
  BB-CVU/64.   200,000 ton Battleship.
  BB-FEU/74.   500,000 ton Dreadnought.

• This also allows a degree of overlap between the lower range of one coding system and the upper range of the previous coding system for intercompatibility:

• Hull Codes AA-AJ would be Hull sizes 100 ton - 900 ton
• Hull Codes AK-AU (1,000 ton - 1,900 ton) all fall into Hull Code BA.
• Hull Codes AV-AZ (2,000 ton - 2,400 ton) all fall within Hull Code BB.

• Hull Codes BA-BJ would be Hull sizes 1,000 ton - 9,000 ton
• Hull Codes BK-BU (10,000 ton - 19,000 ton) all fall into Hull Code CA.
• Hull Codes BV-BZ (20,000 ton - 24,000 ton) all fall into Hull Code CB.

• Hull Codes CA-CJ would be Hull sizes 10,000 ton - 90,000 ton
• Hull Codes CK-CU (100,000 ton - 190,000 ton) all fall into Hull Code FA.
• Hull Codes CV-CZ (200,000 ton - 240,000 ton) all fall into Hull Code FB.

• Hull Codes FA-FJ would be Hull sizes 100,000 ton - 900,000 ton.
• Hull Codes FK-FU would be Hull sizes 1,000,000 ton - 1,900,000 ton.
• Hull Codes FV-FZ would be Hull sizes 2,000,000 ton - 2,400,000 ton.
