A silicone analog of hydrocarbon petrochemicals, Affas is the naturally occurring mixture of various types of hydrosilicones and requires processing to render into useful products. Affas is dark red, purple, or black in color; it is of thick, viscous consistency. The substance is heavier than liquid sulfur.
It is estimated that lubricants made from the hydrosilicones will increase the efficiency of high-temperature engines by approximately 12%. It can also be used to create a silicone-based plastic that shows remarkable resistance to heat and acid.
The largest known natural source of Affas is the planet Eshaar (Far Frontiers 1826).
