The Singan Subsector is named for a fictional starship captain and explorer made famous in tales written by Lucan Tellane. His riveting adventures caused many a Varan youth to join VOSS.

In many ways, Tellane was responsible for many of the technological achievements of early Varan space culture. Avid readers joined the Varan Science Institutes, leading to the rapid growth of industry and the space program.

This lead to social and economic reforms, resulting in the formation of VECTOR, as well as VOCOMM. The consolidation of VOSS, VECTOR, and VOCOMM into the Cosat was the final step to the stars for the Varan people.
