Viral infection caused by the mutation of common cold virus in an environment of Kelpyspice condiments common to Ushtar/Cemplas (Core 1328) .The original outbreak in 29 spread to worlds within three parsecs before being controlled.
Redeye Plague is characterized in its early stages by watering eyes, congested nose, and heavy coughing. By day two of the disease, internal bleeding in the eyeballs fills them with blood (producing the characteristic redeye symptom and blindness). A coma and violent seizures follow by day three and continue until death between day ten and day fourteen. Antibiotic treatment before death produces almost immediate recovery; the blindness can be reversed through surgical drainage of the blood in the eyeballs. Because of the potential for recurrence of the plague, Redeye Plague vaccination is universal on Sar and antibiotics effective against the plague are available at class A, B, and C starports within the Core sector.
