The term "Fulani" ultimately derives from the "Hausa-Fulani" or "Fulani" (Fula) people of the Sahel-Sahara region of West Africa and the Senegambian "Fula" language that they speak.

There must be some reason why this sector acquired this name historically, even if its relevance has been superceded today.
