Richard "Doc" Kinne is a Traveller fan and budding contributer.

Description (Biography)

Doc (who picked up the nickname in college) picked up Classic Traveller in 1979. He was a science nerd from the start, and at that date 3 years from going to college for Computer Science and Astronomy. He'd been playing D&D for about a year. Traveller was his second RPG.

Doc loved the ability to create your own universe. He started his own Traveller Universe, but it really never came to anything.

He loves reading Traveller rulebooks and has read at least the core of MegaTraveller, the New Era, GURPS Traveller, T4, and Mongoose Traveller Version 1.

His favorite alien race are the Hivers.

He favorite ship is a toss-up between the Scout/Courier and the Lavalier class Laboratory Ship.

-Sometime after graduate school I moved to Boston in 2008 to take my first astronomy-based position. The move, and the career change, was such a large change to my psyche that it started trying to draw comfort from my past. One of the things it dredged up was gaming. While I easily found a D&D group, I decided to try to find - or develop - a Traveller group.
-It worked, but our first problem was to figure out what rule set to use. The choices were Classic, GURPS, or the new [[Mongoose Traveller]] rules. I'd looked at the Mongoose rules a bit. They seemed expensive especially given that Marc had republished the Classic ruleset, but after closely reading the Core Book I was convinced of their quality. We decided to use the Mongoose rules.

While stability has its place, I'm looking forward to playing through the wars, the assassination, and the Virus. It's a personal preference, but I'm excited its one that I'll finally be able to take advantage of.
