TO&E (Organization)[edit]
Equipment ranged from TL–10 to TL–11. Armed with Type 41 ACV APCs and Hover Tanks, they like big vehicles. Infantry platoons had four squads and two big transport vehicles. Type 53 Ziru Sirka Point Defense Sled Hover Craft mounts a 4cm hyper velocity mass driver, with a coaxial VRF for point defense, and (4) rails for 8.4cm TAC HEAP missiles. The 7mm ACR is standard with 46 rounds/magazine, with squad level 7mm SAWs, a blade and digging tool are part of the infantry kit. There is one grenadier and an AT TAC missile team per squad. They are adapted for a 36 hour activity cycle with four meals. They are issued a ration of fighters' beer to maintain morale. They are confident long service professionals and have good morale but are conservative with low initiative. They are excellent at logistics and resupply with thousands of years of practice. Their infantry and artillery support are excellent as well. Platoons would deploy 8cm RAM mortars with laser guided, variable ballistics CBM rounds. Artillery sections deployed two TL–11 Type 51A ACV SPG, these hover craft mounted 288mm hyper velocity mass drivers. The T-42c provide a fire control center and supervises three open topped TL–11Type 52 ACV SPM, scout/recon hovercraft. Each scout team acts as forward observers and deploy mortars. Six TL–11, Type 55 Scout Walkers are assigned to support dismounted infantry with on demand fire support and air defense. The trends towards using traditional weapons for long time periods is reflected in the maroon, cutlasses and revolvers of modern imperial marines, traditions traced back to the Ziru Sirka.
Protected by a CES consisting of a light clamshell cuirass and a one-piece helmet with a detachable visor and 0.1kg short-range radio. An assault harness was worn over the cuirass. This had attachment points for six magazine pouches and an expert system computer, all worn on the chest to provide additional protection against hits to the vitals, as well as the two packs carried by infantrymen. The combat pack wrapped completely around the waist, and had large compartments for extra magazines, grenades, high-energy food paste and a small water bladder.
The rucksack and its frame could be quickly detached from the assault harness. It had eight individual compartments containing:
- A water bladder with a capacity of approximately 4 liters.
- A vacuum flask holding a day's ration of beer--about a liter. Vilani "warrior beer" was relatively low in alcohol content (8% or so), but especially rich in vitamins and carbohydrates.
- A mess kit with a copper pot and cup, a collapsible tripod, a utensil (the so-called "vilork"), a fire piston, spice packs, water purification tablets and 12 ration bars. These could be eaten without preparation, but the preferred method was to dissolve them in hot water to make a kind of thick porridge.
- A toiletry kit with a hand mirror, razor, toothbrush analog, multipurpose cleansing gel and other personal necessities.
- A first aid kit with bandage spray and a variety of syrettes with analgesics, antiradiation drugs and stimulants.
- A sewing kit.
- Components for the squad tent and a lightweight sleeping bag.
- A large pouch for personal items, spare power cells, etc.
Every Vilani soldier also carried a wickedly curved knife, a multitool, and an entrenching tool that could double as a vicious hand-to-hand weapon.
Boots were considered the most important item of equipment. These usually resembled short jackboots, made out of chemically treated leather with aramid liners. Six pairs of synthetic elastic oversocks and six pairs of organic pseudo-woolen footwraps were issued.
Army Composition[edit]
In the Vilani organizational system, the basic combat unit is the two-man fire team, working on a "buddy system" principle. From these fire team building blocks are formed the various formational sub-units of the operational Gisadia:
- Four fire teams are combined with a command team lead by a Shuukishi, with a Dakhaki as support NCO, to form a 10-man squad.
- Four squads are combined with an elite squad and a command squad to form a platoon of approximately 50-60 men led by a Khiipishi (or Pirasishi in the case of a Tank Platoon) and assisted by a Sharsha.
- Four platoons are combined with a command section (overseen by a Pirasishi) to form a company of approximately 200-250 men led by an Ishdarishi and assisted by an Askam.
The operational base formation of the Gisadia is the Nadshemi or infantry battalion.
- A Nadshemi is composed of five infantry companies and one command/support company (overseen by an Ishdarishi tonally inflected to denote seniority), a large staff and a few vehicles for a total of 1200 troops commanded by a Kupuishi and assisted by a Uurshugkhir.
- An Ishkaaim, or tank battalion, is composed of three (oversized) tank companies (each overseen by an Ishdarishi tonally inflected to denote seniority) and a command/support company (overseen by a seniormost Ishdarishi tonally inflected to denote chief seniority), commanded by a Kupuishi (tonally inflected to denote seniority) or Kerkiishi and assisted by a Uurshugkhir (tonally inflected to denote seniority).
- A Lurkugi, or (small) division (or large brigade) is a six combat-battalion equivalent formation, including extensive artillery, and a support battalion (overseen by an Kupuishi) for a total of almost 9000 troops commanded by a Lurkugiishi and assisted by a Kerkiishi.
- A Kuearda, or corps equivalent, is composed of three to five lurkugi, totaling 25,000-50,000 troops commanded by a Kueardaishi and assisted by a Lurkugiishi.
- A Sukauuaashdug, or army/army-group equivalent in size, is only ever fielded at need and formed of multiple Kuearda and smaller attached support formations as circumstances dictate. It will be commanded by a Sukauuaashdugishi and assisted by a Kueardaishi.
