The star Merak (otherwise known as Beta Ursae Majoris) is a blue-white subgiant star of spectral type A1 that is part of the loose open cluster known as the Ursa Major moving group.
Description (Specifications)
Merak has a circumstellar debris disk of orbiting dust that is centered at a radius of 47AU from the primary star.
The Merak star system is approximately 24.4pc from Terra, and is located in a Rimspinward/Spinward direction from Terra at bearing 149.2o Galactic Longitude and +54.8o North Galactic Latitude.
- The star 37 Ursae Majoris is located in relatively close proximity to Merak at 1.6 pc.
- The star Phecda is located close to Merak, and is separated from it by ~3.4 pc.
