Zura
A rare genetic mutation among the S'mrii. S'mrii suffering from this defect develop two pairs of cerebral hemispheres, one behind the other. Zura are immediately recognisable by their much enlarged craniums.
S'mrii authorities are reluctant to allow Zura to be medically examined by non-S'mrii, and so accurate information on this condition is still lacking. It is known that in most Zura the "higher functions" of the second brain do not develop, the extra brain mass being used for incredible information retrieval, but in some cases the Zura develop two separate and distinct personalities. Rumours persist that these Zura have extraordinary psionic powers, especially involving detection and control of aggression in others.
Zura S'mrii serve as referees at the Valaskialf Arena on Mimu, in the shadow of the Ahmarr Palace. The Arena stages numerous combats. Three Zura seated above the centre of the arena monitor the aggression levels of the combatants. If these exceed predetermined limits, the Zura activate preplaced tranqpads on the combatants, rendering them unconscious. Arena fighters learn to hone their skills without giving in to blind aggression.
