Greetings (2017)[edit]

Welcome, Taegar! Please introduce yourself and don't hesitate to ask questions.

I still have not figured out the syntax for much here. But, I learn at a fair clip.

I have been a fan of the Traveler universe since the mid-late '70s. I've had very few opportunities to play, but still rabidly pursued material about the histories and cultures within and around the Third Imperium.

I have many, many questions. Most of these concern "canon". The information base has been slowly growing for forty years. In that time, I've seem information that was solid canon become non-canon. I still have Judges Guild's Ley Sector and Glimmerdrift Reaches. These obviously don't do me much good if I am writing strictly for canon, but make for a nice bragging point. I wouldn't mind contributing to the encyclopedia, and I can see many areas with missing or incomplete information. But, without a better understanding of canon, and how new information is vetted, I'm not comfortable contributing more than spot edits.

The wiki is a fan resource and is not restricted to canon. I will help you however you like. Do you have a CotI account?

I am not familiar with the CotI abbreviation. This stand for ... ?

You sign your name with a dash and four of these "~"... It's a good habit to have.
CotI = citizens of the Imperium = External Link: CotI

I now have a CotI account: "Taegar". It is a real shame that I have to pose as an Imperial, but as long as I don't have to pay their taxes I can pretend.

Well, color me baffled. How can a world in the Solomani Confederation have an estate for an Imperial noble? Dang Imperials think they own everything.

I hit "Random page" a lot. Just to see where it takes me. As a result, I landed on the Kottke(world) page, and it has the estate for an Imperial knight - (http://wiki.travellerrpg.com/Kottke_(world)#Imperial_High_.28Landed.29_Nobility). I figure this is an artifact from a synthetic generation for system data, a routine in a program that checks a variable and if the value matches then give an estate to a brass-hat.

What I find odd though, is that this Imperial yard sale is set up, but the rest of the system data is not available yet. Or, is this a default setting that is part of the template?

That might be a typo or have an interesting back story. Remind me and I will check later.

What I noted when I looked at Kottke (world) was "This is a world-system under construction and is currently being input-programmed into the Traveller RPG Wiki. "...

Updated world. Was in progress. Now up to date.

To answer your question an imperial knight per world IS part of a blank slate default for worlds under construction, nobility, star type, etc. I also enjoy grabbing random worlds and sprucing them up, with random bits of non canon chrome of my own invention to amuse myself. Some of this detritus persists to this day. BTW welcome aboard.
