The Rhylanor Institute of Technology was first introduced by DGP in the Traveller Digest Magazines in its "Grand Tour" ongoing campaign (it was the Institution at which Dr. Theodor Krenstein was a faculty member). In MT (also largely produced by DGP under license from GDW), Imperial Encyclopedia Library Data specifically mentions the "University of Rhylanor" in terms similar to RIT. It is unclear whether or not these two institutions are meant to be the same (i.e. RIT's number of graduate degree programs in diverse fields were expanded between 1105 and 1120 so that RIT was granted recognition as a University), or whether they are separate institutions (which would not be at all unreasonable on a subsector-capital world with a population of over 1 billion).

Note that The Regency Sourcebook mentions both the University of Rhylanor and the Rhylanor Institute of Technology as separate institutions.
