Notes (2018)[edit]

It is important to stress that the Perception Sense is not psionics though a psionic sophont can devote Aptitude points toward the Psi-Sense of Perception. Poice is not electromagnetic or even biolelectromagnetic. Bioelectricity is covered by Mag and Lek two descriptors covered by the Awareness Sense and the Psi-Sense of Awareness. Poice is the Traveller5 volume of life emitted from a source or scources and is detectable by the Perception Sense Benchmark.

Light is electromagnetic too - and bioluminescence is ultimately electromagnetism emitted from biological sources. And yet, light is neither Mag nor Lek. Why must Poice be something different?

Further, Poice is sensed by the brain, directly, via the Perception sense. The brain is a bioelectric organ; electric potentials (some as mediated by chemicals - neurotransmitters) is how it does everything; any non-electric sensory data (such as tactile and audio) must be converted into electrical signals by some other organ. If Poice is not electromangnetic, then how is the brain sensing it?

If Poice and Perception are "not" psionic, then why are they so strongly associated with the Empress Wave, which is psionic? And why do they have so many properties of psionics, that they just about pass the duck test for being psionics? That Poice is not directly psionics (just strongly associated with it), much as light is not itself sight, is the closest I can make sense of that assertion.

In general, Poice and Perception need to be described without mystical BS, if they are to be described in ways useful to people wishing to make use of this material (such as GMs and players). If you disagree with the given description, please provide another description of what it is, not mere statements that it somehow is not this thing that it appears to be without providing any meaningful distinction.
