Notes (2025)[edit]
Perhaps a somewhat more Sci-Fi/Scientific-sounding classification scheme might be:
- Humaniform: Having a general/vague human-like overall body-plan in the broad sense; "like a human" (informal).
- Hominoid: Having a general/vague humaniform body-plan; like a Hominid or Primate (like Terran subfamily Hominidae; a "Primate" form (Family: Primata)).
- Hominid: Derived from the Terran Sub-Family Hominidae of Terra. Broader than Humaniti.
- Hominin: Derived from the Terran Genus Homo- of Terra. Generally overlapping in meaning with the terms "Humaniti" and "Minor Human Race" in the broad sense. Interfertility uncertain.
- Humanoid: Derived from the Terran Species Homo-sapiens of Terra and including all variant interfertile subspecies. Generally overlapping in meaning with the terms "Humaniti" and "Minor Human Race" in the narrow sense.
Also, the addition of "pseudo-" as a prefix to any descriptor makes it clear that something is merely "like" another, without being necessarily related to it, to add additional emphasis when necessary.
Notes (2018)[edit]
- EXTERNAL LINK: Reading through the minor race section of the Traveller wiki it has become increasingly irritating that almost everything is described as being "humanoid.
