- Vacuum has nothing to do with the presence or absence of recoil. Momentum is a conserved vector quantity. If you send a given magnitude of momentum in one direction (via a bullet/needle for example), it must be compensated for by an equal amount of momentum in response in the opposite direction. Whether it will make a significant noise or not will depend on several design factors (including bullet shape as well as the speed of the bullet (super/sub-sonic)). This is entirely separate from the issue of whether or not the electromagnetic firring mechanism itself makes any sort of noise.
