Resavolk

A sophont species, a non-Human Minor Race native to Tumereng (Vanguard Reaches 0829). They are currently confined to their homeworld.

Resavolk society is a monoculture, numbering 60 million adults tied together by common language and customs but not formally united in any political sense. The Resavolk are confined to a small fraction of their world, a single rocky continent, explaining their continued homogeneity.

Physiology

Resavolk have a multi-stage lifecycle, of which only the final stage is sophont. The first stage is a herbivorous larval worm; the second stage a carnivorous quadruped that births the larvae. After successfully giving birth to a litter (of 2–6 larvae), the quadruped enters a chrysalis to emerge as the sophont final stage, which evolved intelligence to aid in caring for the prior stage members of its community. These post-breeding "adult" Resavolk are 1.5–2 metres tall, vaguely humanoid and covered in iridescent scales. In this stage, they have a narrow, mostly vegetarian diet.

History and Background

Resavolk technological progress has been steady but slow. Current technology includes steam engines, although these are crude, stationary devices employed to assist in mining. Transportation, trade and communication is based on a system of dirt roads.
