In the primary K'kree Language, the word for the mane of long, course hair growing over a K'kree's head and along a ridge down their upper spine.
The manes begin growing during adolescence and are closely identified with sexual virility and the K’kree concept of xaar, or dominance. Though customs vary from world to world within the K'kree dominion, the majority of K’kree adopt patterns of pkri!r fashion tied to social standing:
- Ghikkeer!k, or Steppelords, have full manes, leaving the pkri!r uncut as a symbol of virility and power.
- Kaakr, the members of merchant and craft guilds, shave the tops of their heads but allow the manes to grow.
- L’llurik, or servants, shave their pkri!r entirely.
- Females belonging to the noble or well-born castes shave the pkri!r on their heads, and braid, knot, and bead the strands from their spinal ridge.
- Female servants shave their manes and spine ridges completely, like their males.
- Soldiers cut their manes, but generally leave an inch-long bristle down their spines and on their heads, where it serves as padding for their helmets and armour. The soldiers of some K'kree worlds knot their head manes as a record of battles or service.
