The actual limit on the medical bays is the operation package's limit on number of crew members provided. The auto-repair software runs in addition to the operations package, giving it control over the repair drones as separate physical bodies it can use to maintain itself (if given a supply of spare parts, usually obtained alongside fuel), which is one of the main features that made this class attractive to Virus. These stats are for the ship as originally manufactured, before Virus.
