John Earl Douglass, son of Prince Bruce I and Princess Elizabeth Douglass (Countess Montrose of Cuillbeath)

While his father, Bruce, and his uncle Robert II had been corrupt and dissipate rulers, John brought an air of ruthlessness to the mix.

An enthusiastic practicioner of court intrigue from his early teens, by the time John acceeded to the throne in 44 at age 34, he was believed to have been responsible for the imprisonment of many courtiers, the disappearance of another, and the murder of at least two. He'd also enriched the family greatly.

He married three times:

  1. Harriett, Baroness of Laphrood - their arranged marriage in 30 ended in 36 when it was determined she was incapable of having children. The divorce was accomanpanied with a 50 million pound payoff.
  2. Mary, Duchess of Glenmorangie - began an affair with John in 32; married him in 35 while expecting their eldest, Bruce. Three more children ensued; daughter Elise in 36, son Laurence in 37, and youngest daughter Andrea in 40.
  3. Adriane, Baronet of Cullfearn - wife of his Privy Council minister, the two began an affair shortly after John's coronation. John divorced Mary shortly before Bruce's retirement - the payoff involved a 100 million pound payoff - and went on to have three more children; son Roger in 45, daughter Charlotte in 46, and Simon in 47.

John was an inveterate womanizer; he retired in [[66] after contracting a debilitating venereal disease, turning the throne over to Bruce, his eldest.
