Hamish I (Prince of Caledon)
Hamish I | |
In office -252 to -207 | |
Preceded by | Stuart I |
---|---|
Succeeded by | Duncan I |
Born | -287 |
Died | -207 |
Born Hamish Martin De Geoffrey in -287, he was the eldest son of Arthur and Alice De Geoffrey, Earl of Berwickshire.
The closing years of the Hall of Kilbarton dynasty were a bit of a mess - and the passing of the two sons of Colin I left a succession crisis. It was through a canny deal between clan De Geoffrey and Clan Moore of Donbaireagh, including the marriage of 35-year-old Hamish and the 18 year old Lady Sarah Moore and the acceptance of Alice's father Laird Roger Moore as regent, that sealed the deal. Hamish was crowned on 304--252, eight weeks after Stuart I's death.
Hamish ruled for 45 stable, capable years, long outliving Moore and his successor regent. He greatly expanded the Navy, and in -219 commissioned the second, successful attempt to colonize Stuart.
He died in -207 at age 80, turning the throne over to his younger brother Duncan I.
