Rancke Notes (2009)[edit]

In a post on Citizens of the Imperium back in 2003, I claimed that the Gazelle had the number CE-13712 and the Unicorn the number CE-13768. I'm absolutely positive that I wouldn't have written that if I hadn't found it in some canonical source. However, I'm unable to find the reference(s) again. If anyone can help me with that, I'd be most grateful.

"'Gazelle had the number CE-13712 and the Unicorn the number CE-13768."  This appears on page 47 of Supplement 7: Traders and Gunboats under the section "High Guard Statisitics"

The dates for the building of the Unicorn are from JTAS#4. If those two numbers are canonical, the Gazelle must have been built not very long before the Unicorn was laid down. Assuming that every single Gazelle was built consecutively at the same yard, it would take 16 months for the first ships and 11 months for each of 55 subsequent ships, or 621 months, roughly 52 years. However, this is most unlikely. If eight yards were involved (the number involved in building the Kinunirs), it would have taken around 82 months or roughly 7 years. If 20 were involved (the number involved in building the Azhantis), it could be as little as 38 months. So I took the average, 60 months, and threw a few dice to add or subtract some days (as it happened, it came out as only one day less that 60 months).

One of the adventures for T20 (The Linkworld Cluster) has an encounter with a Gazelle class close escort called the Starlancer. This must be a previous class, one that doesn't have drop tanks (Since drop tanks were only invented a few decades prior to 1105).
