The Explosive Scatter Gun, more commonly known as the "Splat Gun" or "Can Opener" is a launched armor-breaching support weapon system.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Explosive Scatter Gun, or "Splat Gun" is a favorite Heavy Weapon among Covert Operations Teams. The weapon is of a tubular launcher design with a small flash-shield at about the midpoint of the approximately 850mm tube-length, utilizing a pistol-grip and sighting scope for firing-operation with an additional padded, cut-away shoulder-stock that curves over and around the shoulder for support. The majority of the tube length forward of the flash-shield consists of the barrel-cluster, with a secondary handgrip located near its end just behind a receptacle for an optional telescoping bipod attachment.

The gun breaks open at the flash-shield for loading, with provision for insertion of a 10-round magazine just forward of the flash-shield which is accomplished by rotating the magazine into a locking position. The magazine holds 5 HEAP and 5 HE shells which are similar to, but not exactly the same as snub-weapon ammunition, all fired simultaneously in a phased sequence of HEAP slightly before HE, which are capable of penetrating and damaging armor up to and including ATVs, APCs, and AFVs at appropriate ranges.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The "Splat Gun" was originally developed by the Aslan as an anti-armor / anti-battledress alternative to the RAM Grenade Launcher for use against higher TL adversaries and was only later copied and adapted for human use by profiteering arms manufacturers on the fringes of Imperial Space. It is still highly illegal within the Imperium and is generally controlled at Law level 1 and above. The Aslan version suffers no such stigma within Aslan Space and among extra-Imperial Aslan mercenary units, however.
