Dim is a pre-agricultural and nonindustrial world lacking adequate development for its economy to become prosperous.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Shinkan Subsector of Core Sector in the Domain of Sylea.
Description (Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
System Data[edit]
The system's largest gas giant is named Oaf, and is just barely under the threshold of being classified as a brown dwarf. It is not much smaller than the system primary, Dim. The two bodies orbit one another about a close barycentre. The other planets of the system are circumbinary, orbiting the star and gas giant as a pair. [2]
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Dim Highport's numerous taverns, speakeasies and dive bars are crowded with Travellers who trade information; those returning from Antares or Fornast often seek to spend time here, to refamiliarize themselves with goings-on in Core.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Dim has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair.
The central pod of Dim Highport is a busy thoroughfare, through which freight and speculative cargo are moved in bulk. Low-tech robots, large and small, roam about transporting cargo modules and the like; visitors learn to walk carefully lest they be run down in the narrow streets.
There is no downport on Dim, just a small spaceport that is fit only to dock small craft.
Economy[edit]
The surface of Dim is barely populated. The world's metal and mineral reserves are poor, although a few small operations scratch out a living mining copper, aluminium and tungsten. The main industry is ice cracking.
