Darac
A variety of tree native to Oewni.
It has slender branches tipped with thousands of silver, blue-veined leaves. The Darac is notable for reacting to sound; the tree will turn its branches towards the source of the sound and the bark changes colour, going from light bronze through to deep gold according to the level of sonic vibration.
Darac trees hold a special place in the local Lancian culture. They are extremely difficult to grow, and require a great deal of attention. Whenever a child is expected, a Darac seed is planted by the parents. It is believed that the seedling is linked to the new life. Should the plant thrive, the parents "know" that they can look forward to a healthy child, while a sickly plant is believed to signify either a miscarriage or a weak baby. At a child's first birthday, the seedling is grafted onto the family tree.
