Verbal Override or Computer Override is a procedure used with computer-controlled systems, where a specific code word may be used as absolute identification. When used, the code word bypasses all other identification circuits, and automatically authorizes the presence of the individual concerned. Primary use of such systems is in the military, where large numbers of individuals may be using the same system.
The verbal override code words for a specific computer system is not usually maintained in writing in the ship or facility. But may be part of operations orders. The code words are not usually changed except during specific security review procedures.
