Born Colin Murdo Macarthur, Fifth Earl of MacArthur of Inverloch, fourth son of James MacArthur, Fourth Earl of MacArthur of Inverloch.
Colin VII made history on a number of levels.
First: He was the first Sovereign Prince to hail from a system other than Caledon. Born on Dunbarton,
Second: He was the first, and one of the few, Princes to descend from a commoner; he was the great grandson thrice removed of Cynthia MacArthur, the consort of John I, in effect the surrogate mother of Colin III. MacArthur's silence was purchased with a grant of land, money, and especially peerage.
Military Career[edit]
Colin served in the Royal Caledonian Navy for twenty full years, rising to the rank of Frigate Captain (commanding the HMCS Abernathy, a heavy frigate that accompanied one of the battle squadrons) before rejoining the family shipping business and making a sizeable fortune.
Ascent to the Throne[edit]
Then, drawn by the interplay at the beginning of the The Douglass Concord led him back first to the House of Lords in 98, and then to the Privy Council of Simon I in 100.
There, Colin was intimately involved in the negotiations to get several other Caledonian clans (The Stuarts of Sutherland, Andrews of Leith and Adamsons of Dunfermline) in line behind Macarthur of Inverloch's bid for the throne.
He was crowned on 5-103. He only served six years, and then retired, turning the throne over to his son, Stuart.
