Description[edit]

The larger of the two spaceports on Sparks this has capacity for up to 500,000 dTons of cargo to be warehoused and for ships of up to 100,000 dTons in size to dock. On Average it handles over 25,000 dTons of cargo each and every day; Surge throughput being almost triple that value.

The port can construct vessels, in covered docks, of up to 500,000 dTons and has several competing ship- and boat-builders.

Docking Fees are very reasonable. The first week's fees are Cr100 with Cr100 daily fees thereafter (long term storage can be arranged at cheaper rates).

Approach within 400km of the port MUST be undertaken under the control of the ports space traffic control centre. (i.e. Everything north of the planetoid's equator) unless classed as "Ground Traffic" when the traffic management rules apply instead.

Overflight of/Close approach to the Naval Facilities without permission is harshly dealt with and may trigger automated defences.

The spaceport is about 20km square and 1km deep - 400 cubic km of bays, warehouses, etc. The layout is shown below including the main bay landing pad groups (numbered) and passenger terminals (lettered). North Pole Spaceport (Sparks).jpg

History[edit]

The Battle of Sparks included a major engagement at the spaceport in 298. Terminal "C" was destroyed at this time.
