Operation and Tactics[edit]
Missile Launchers can launch missiles relatively quickly, the problem is getting those missiles to then head for the right target in a coordinated fashion. The firing vessel has one channel for guidance per launch group. The firing process consists getting the missile close enough for the onboard target acquisition system to pick the target and then for that onboard system to guide the missile to the actual target. The former part of the process ties up the control channel system for a considerable period in each cycle unless the target is stationary or in a stable path.
The targeting system may be a smart system or a dumb system. The latter will make one pass and either hit or miss. The former will turn and have another go, and another, until it hits, is destroyed or runs out of fuel and self-destructs.
