Caledonian Regimental Organization

While in a sense no two Caledonian regiments are alike, they tend to share several common features:

  • A sponsor among the nobility. This is usually a historical connection.
  • 1-2 (sometimes more) "regular" full-time battalions.
  • 1-2 (sometimes more) *reserve* battalions of part-timers called up for local or general emergencies.
  • An "Officers Mess" - a social organization for the Regiment's officers. Officers pay dues to belong to the mess. It's more than just a cafeteria.
  • An NCO's mess for the sergeants. It also charges dues, although more modestly so than the Officer's Mess.
  • A Regimental Band. Usually a small unit of pipers and drummers.
  • Training Depot - Provides basic training for the Regiment's troops.
  • Recruiting Detachment
  • A Regimental Association. This takes care of pensions, medical care and funeral arrangements for Regimental veterans and survivors, as well as organizing unit reunions and other social functions. The "RA" also takes care of families while the battalions are deployed.

Sample Regiments[edit]

The Lord Conyngham's Pirbright Rangers[edit]

Formed in 332 by Lord Jeffrey, First Viscount of Conyngham, the Regiment has battle honors from all of the Principality's campaigns since then. It recruits troops from the vicinity of Pirbright, in Argyllshire, Caledon.

The Regiment consists of:

  • First Battalion ("1/LCPR"), a regular heavy battalion currently serving at the Mackenzie Barracks in Mackenzie, Caledon as part of the 24th Division, in XXI Corps, based at Mackenzie.
  • Second Battalion ("2/LCPR"), a regular heavy battalion currently serving at Pirbright as part of the 42nd Division, part of XIX Corps, based at Loch Whinge.
  • Third Battalion (3/LCPR"), a reserve light infantry battalion based at the Pirbright Barracks.
  • Pipes and Drums of the Lord Coningham's Pirbright Rangers, a 14 piece pipe and drum band that plays at ceremonial occasions.
  • LCPR Training Company - provides the 32 week Infantry Training course for would-be recruits.
  • The LCPR Regimental Association
    • Pension Section - also handles survivorship benefits for Regiment members lost in the line of duty.
    • Healthcare Section
    • Family Services Section
  • The Officer's Mess - the repository of tradition for the regiment's serving and veteran officers. Provides a clubhouse, a golf course, and other amenities.
  • The Sergeant's Mess - Provides primarily an NCO's club - often opened to other ranks to raise money.

The Wallacebarrough Fusiliers[edit]

Formed in 844 on Stirling by Lord Angus Mellon, 21st Duke of Wallacebarrough, the Regiment has a long history of serving primarily as light troops.

  • First Battalion ("1/WallF"), a regular light infantry battalion serving with 1 Infantry Brigade on Stirling.
  • Second Battalion ("2/WallF"), a reserve light infantry battalion, which on mobilizatiion is tasked with local security.
  • Fifth Battalion - This is actually a mercenary unit reporting to the Duke, composed entirely of veterans of the first two battalions.
  • Pipes and Drums of the Wallacebarrough Fusilieers
  • Wallacebarrough Fusiliers Training Company - provides the 32 week Infantry Training course for would-be recruits.
  • The Wallaceborough Fusuiliers Regimental Association
    • Pension Section - also handles survivorship benefits for Regiment members lost in the line of duty.
    • Healthcare Section
    • Family Services Section
  • The Officer's Mess
  • The Sergeant's Mess

Referee's Notes[edit]

The Regimental Officers and NCO's messes are excellent places to make contact with Caledonian Army veterans who are looking for work, or post-service Caledonian officers who are looking for help for extracurricular work.

Some regiments - such as the Wallacebarrough Fusiliers, above - maintain mercenary units. These are, obviously, an excellent source of mercenaries.
