A sophont species native to Porlock Sector, members of the Hive Federation.
As with many races in Hive Federation space, the species and its homeworld are designated with the same Gurvin label.
The Atane have a distinct, recognised subpolity within the Hive Federation, the Atane Cultural Quarter. This cultural region of twelve worlds marks a current rimward boundary to the Federation.
