Plasma Guns are energy weapons.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Plasma Guns fire beams of super-heated plasma against targets and cause damage by their intense heat and kinetic energy. Plasma Gun fire imposes extreme heat, but it falls short of fusion temperatures.

Typical Naval Plasma Gun Costing[edit]

Turret Mounting

Ship Weapons [1]
Equipment Type Typical Cost (Cr) Weight
Plasma Gun Cr1,500,000 1.5 tons

50 Ton Bay Mounting

Ship Weapons [2]
Equipment Type Typical Cost (Cr) Weight
Heavy Plasma Gun Cr5,000,000 (50 tons)

NOTE:' Other ship weapon types and mountings exist, including some very exotic weaponry.

Typical Personal Plasma Guns[edit]

  1. PGMP (Plasma Gun - Man Portable)
  2. Plasma Bazooka
  3. Plasma Pistol
  4. Plasma Rifle

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Plasma weaponry typically becomes available to a sophont society in the TL:7-9 tech epoch as prototype, early version, very bulky naval weapons. By the TL:10-12 tech epoch, it is increasingly miniaturized leading to large personal plasma weapons, typically used as support weapons. By the TL:13-15 tech epoch, PGMPs are increasingly replaced by FGMPs and prototype plasma rifles are beginning to appear. While the plasma rifles still aren't ready for widespread field use, many technologists and industry professionals have projected that they will become available by the TL:16-18 tech epoch. [3]
