Royal Forces Standard Magazine Project 10-20

The Imperium recognized the logistical challenges posed by having multiple pistol calibers across its vast territories and the need to streamline ammunition supply in joint operations. To address this, the Imperium initiated the Royal Forces Standard Magazine Project 10-20 in 990.

The initial focus of the project was led by the Imperial Navy (IN), which retrofitted its inventory of submachine guns (SMGs) and carbines to accept a standardized magazine well dimension. This standardized magazine was designed to be compatible with the auto pistol, allowing for interoperability between the pistol, SMG, and carbine. The magazine itself is available in 10, 20, and 30-round capacities, providing flexibility for different operational requirements.

In normal usage, the pistol primarily employs a 10-shot flush-fitting magazine, while the SMG can utilize 20 or 30-round magazines. The carbine, on the other hand, has the option to use either the 20 or 30-round magazines. Additionally, both the SMG and carbine have the capability to use the 10-shot magazines if necessary.

The success and benefits of this standardization program led to other services expressing interest in adopting similar standard magazine systems for their firearms. As a result, the Royal Forces Standard Magazine Project 10-20 expanded to include the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service (IISS) and the Army. Collaboration among these services allowed for the development and implementation of standardized magazines and ammunition across a broader range of firearms.

The project aimed to enhance interoperability, simplify logistics, and streamline the supply of ammunition and spare parts across different branches of the Royal Forces. This standardized approach reduced the complexity of joint operations and improved overall efficiency in equipping and supporting the forces of the Third Imperium.
