A Heavy Frigate is Royal Caledonian Navy parlance for a ship equivalent, in Imperial Navy parlance, to a Heavy Cruiser.
In Caledonian practice, Heavy Frigates serve as the screening force for Battleship squadrons. The role includes:
- Jumping in advance of a Task Force to cover its Jumping In point
- Covering a Task Force during jumping-out
- Covering a Task Force's battle squadron's flanks during fleet action
- Providing close reconaissance for the Task Force.
