The so-called “Gateway to Ghoekhnael” is a loose term Vargr of Knoellighz Sector use when terming the massive, 63-world, Jump-1 main and cluster beginning in Dzighkafe subsector (B) at Lluenkhaegon (Knoellighz 1407) D434500-6 Ni and continuing Coreward. It was discovered in 1105 by an enterprising, Vargr, Democracy of Greats colonization administrator and wildcatter of the growing edge border. Though the administrator knew that domination of the newfound main would not be conquered in his lifetime, he wisely and secretly filed the proper paperwork for claiming the main in the name of the next Great. For he knew that such a huge main would call for another elected , charismatic Great as the polity crept Coreward and would cause a shakeup and possible civil war in the favored number of seven Greats. He meant his heir to become that next Great and through such a large, Jump-1 main rule the Democracy of Greats as its most bountiful of all the seven previous mains, small clusters and individual worlds.

Though the Gateway to Ghoekhnael is attainable by Jump-2 capable starships, a the traditional trade fleets of the Democracy of Greats relied heavily upon Jump-1 starships, eschewing distance for territorial range in a main or cluster and giving extra tonnage to cargo hold space. Some corporations are beginning to understand the secrecy behind the new find and make the two-parsec leap to the main through Rourukhae and Ourdzoeg subsectors.

During the Rebellion and Hard Times Eras, the Gateway to Ghoeknael is hotly contested by various, envious Greats and clashes to lay claim to its vastness are made. Yet other Greats protest the find and fear a loss of their mains’ importance as the Democracy of Greats annexes or conquers its way Coreward. But as systems and clusters are left behind in the “tail end” of the polity, a more dangerous event comes from behind and catches the empire unawares.

The onset of Virus comes first and fastest through the Democracy of Greats into Knoellighz Sector, shattering the brittle, left-behind, subsectors. The entirety of Knoellighz degrades into the Wilds as more than one polity is overtaken by Virus and Vampire fleets. Not until Regency and the Zhodani Consulate deliver the Rimward polities through the Gvurrdon border can Knoellighz begin to pick up the pieces.
